Strengths and Weaknesses of Oracle

Information systems today are an integral part of business. When used correctly, they allow you to work more efficiently and help support the business. Oracle is a very robust, highly customizable and scalable information system that can be used in just about all parts of an organization including Accounting, Payroll, Finance, CRM, Sales, Technical Support, Recruiting and HRIS. At the last company I worked for, the majority of my job was implementing, testing and migrating all company data into the HRIS Oracle module. The idea behind installing such a powerful system was to be able to have all parts of the company sharing information quickly and easily, thus streamlining our processes and increasing productivity.

Strengths

Oracle’s biggest strength is that it is able to conform to whatever the company needs from it. In the case of my last employer, we were able to add fields, workflow and imports that mimicked our previous system. We worked with Oracle developers that were able to build the system to fit our exact needs. By the time the implementation was completed we had eliminated almost 90% of the paper previously used by the HR team and were able to process more changes in less time. When a manager entered a pay change they could select the people that needed to approve it and route it for approval. Once approved by all of the necessary parties it came to HR for the final approval. After HR’s approval the change would automatically go into the system and a notification would go to payroll and the manager that originally submitted it. Every morning a connection file would be generated by Oracle and sent to payroll with all of the previous days changes. They could upload the connection file and all changes would go into their system.
