Oftentimes I find myself wondering what is happening in other cultures’ communities. I wonder do they have the same problems and issues that we have or do they go through different situations than we. Here is just a little bit of information about my culture and the community that my family and I live in.

I am an African American women and the community that I live in is predominately African American, although the town itself is predominately White. In my community, most of us look the same, in that we wear what is considered normal clothing and shoes, with the exception of the few who sometimes wear what a lot of us consider as weird clothes. The other ways that some of us differ in my community is that, some of us have lighter skin tones than others. Even with that being so, we all get along well because we have a good understanding about why we are different. I am fortunate that in my community, difference is embraced and not frowned upon.

I must say that I am impressed with the leaders in my community. As far as I can tell, they treat everyone with the same respect, dignity, and compassion, regardless of ethnicity. Even legal immigrants are treated with respect, as long as they are willing to work hard and abide by the laws. The other races that make up my community demonstrate the same regards, ethical treatment, and empathy that our community officials do. The United States can provide immigrants with the hope of a better life if they are willing to work hard and I do not have a problem with that. The only time that I have a problem with it is when they just sit around and wait for our government to take care of them.
