Astronomy Lab 2011

Lab Report

Using the Sky Experiment is an experiment about trying to get you to become more familiar with just one of the multimedia Astronomy packages available as well as some of the concepts covered in lectures. Throughout the experiment I had to find certain objects and there site, date, time and ECT. For instance Mars, there were things like; what time does Mars rise, transit, and set. Also, what is the apparent magnitude and phase of Mars.

Somewhere throughout the experiment I had to find out the brightest star in the constellation of Aquila and how far away is it (in light-years). What is, its proper name and what its apparent magnitude is. Throughout the experiment I had to also, find out information on the common name stars. For example I had to find things such as their magnitude, constellation, rise, transit and set. In exercise four there where the Messier objects which are, M13 and M42. I had to find out what constellation was they located in and what is their respective apparent magnitude.

In conclusion, this experiment was mainly about trying to get you familiar with using one of the multimedia astronomy packages that are available. This can help you in various ways. Such as trying to locate certain objects and finding out certain information on these certain objects. For instance finding out things such as, what time does the object rise, transit, and set. Also is the object an apparent magnitude and phase. How far is the object (in light-years).
