The article I choose to read was. Diagnosis, Initial Management, and Prevention of Meningitis. The reason I choose this one is because it’s one close to my heart. Back in 2007 we got custody of my stepson because his mother had kidnapped him. In the first week of us having him he became ill after a week of taking him back and forth to the E.R and the doctors all they could come up with was it was a viral infection caused by his tonsils As a parent I knew something was not right I called the E.N.T specialist and got him in much to our surprise he took one look at him and said you need to take him to the E.R he has meningitis. We took him up and I told them what the other doctor said and sure enough after the test was done that’s what the little man had. How this could have gone on for a week and no one know what was wrong with our little man. I believe there should be more studies done in order to make more doctors see the warning signs. Luckily for us everything worked out for the best.

In the article it talks about how bacterial meningitis in the United States is on the decline, that’s great. However just because something in on the decline, does not mean people can no longer get meningitis. There is always going to be that one person who get’s bit from that one mosquito that somehow got to the United States and then everything starts over again. In the article it also talks about lumbar puncture is safe and should be used when a person has signs that can’t be explained by something else. It also talks about the risk of a lumbar puncture there can be life threatening hernia ion among others. However the good out does the bad in most cases.
