Topic: To inform the audience about blood donation.

Purpose: To inform the audience about what is involved with becoming a blood donor.

Thesis: Today I will inform you on what is involved in being a blood donor.

I. Introduction

A. Attention Getter: What if someone you love or care deeply about gets diagnosed with cancer or gets injured and loses a lot of blood? They are going to need donated blood right away.

B. Reason to Listen: It is estimated that in the United States, every three seconds a patient needs blood. As you sit in a classroom at Ohio Northern University, you may not think that saving a life is something you would do today, but, in fact, it's quite easy to do.

C. Thesis Statement: Today I will inform you on what is involved in being a blood donor.

D. Credibility Statement:

1. I have given blood before and I am aware of the requirements and procedures used during the blood donation process.

2. During the last several weeks I have done much research on the internet, as well as in books and newspaper articles to learn more about the blood donation process.

2. Brief summary of the blood donation procedure.

3. Provide examples of people who receive and benefit from donated blood.

II. Thesis Statement: Today I will inform you on what is involved in being a blood donor.

A. Topic Sentence: Before going to a blood drive or a blood donation center there are a few general qualifications that a person must meet.

1. A person must be in overall good health on the day of the donation.

a. Must be at least 17 years old.

b. Must weigh at least 110 pounds.

c. Cannot have donated in the previous 56 days.
