Food, Inc.

For my first review I decided to watch Food, Inc., because I was interested about what other people had to say about the movie. I found the movie to be very interesting and at the same time in a way quite disgusting by some of the things you see and they talk about. A lot of the things from this movie I have never seen before, so I will go into a little detail about it.

This movie talks about an industry that seems to put profit way ahead of consumer health. It is jeopardizing the livelihood of American farmers throughout or nation, and is really putting the safety of our workers and our environment at risk. In this movie they reveal how a handful of different corporations control our nation’s food supply. They talk about how they try and act like our food mostly comes from the hometown farms, but actually our food is raised on massive factory farms and processed in mega industrial plants. The animals grow fat faster and are designed to fit into the machines that slaughter them. Then at the same time they are making it so tomatoes are being bred to be shipped and without bruising are able to be edible for months. Parts of this seem really great, but then the movie starts to go on more. It talks about how the cattle are given feed that their bodies are not biologically designed to digest, which is resulting in new stands of E. coli bacteria, which sickens around 73,000 Americans each year. And then because the high proliferation of processed foods from corn, Americans are facing epidemic levels of diabetes among adults, and large numbers of increases in obesity among children. This obviously isn’t the only reason but from what this movie showed, it seems like it is a big part of the issue.

After watching this movie, what really bothers me the most is I feel like more needs to be done by the USDA and the FDA. This is not only because the things that are resulting from the animals and foods like new E. coli bacteria stands, but at some point a stand...
