• Read this week’s Electronic Reserve Readings.

• Write a paragraph of approximately 100 words for each of the following questions.

1. Using the critical thinking skills you have gained and the materials provided for this assignment, identify two possible strategies that Thomas Hutchinson or Samuel Adams, or both, likely used to develop and improve his thinking prior to taking a stand and acting according to his beliefs.

One strategy that these men may have enlisted prior to taking a stand is visualizing the solution to the problem. When planning the Boston Tea Party, they were able to visualize a solution after they thought through all of the possibilities that may have occurred when the time came to take their stand. Through using scenarios which were relevant to their circumstances, they were able to plot counter strikes. They also may have used an analytical process. They seem to have assessed both sides of the issue and all consequences of their actions. These critical thinking skills helped these men to achieve their desired results through careful planning.

2. Explain the importance of building a foundation for critical and creative thinking when evaluating historical events such as the Boston Tea Party.

It is important to build a critical and creative thinking foundation when someone evaluates historical events such as the Boston Tea Party because it allows for an individual to contemplate how and why society has changed. How did these changes come about? Was it changed for the better? Would society be better off if these men hadn’t acted in accordance to their beliefs?
