Police Personality Position
Personality is the pattern of collective character, behavioral, temperamental, emotional, and mental traits of a person. Each individual has a different personality. Certain jobs prefer individuals to have a certain kind of personality. For example a retail store might want an individual to have a friendly, cheerful personality while a security guard might need the personality of a tough guy. Police officers have certain unique personality traits that they should posse in order for them to get their job done. This essay will discuss how police officers have to have certain personality traits compared to other jobs that are not in the policing field.
Krumrie (2010) stated that the unique traits that a police officer should have is common sense, a sense of humor, compassion, a strong voice, and the ability to adapt. These traits are important for a police officer because they are put in difficult situation everyday and they need to be able to stand their ground and let the criminals know who is in charge. He also stated that “Being able to deal with a wide array of situations with a level head is important, and being able to laugh is a must. Otherwise one would probably cry” (Krumrie, 2010). One must be able to adapt minute by minute and day by day. One might leave a violent domestic to aid a lost child. The job is never the same, although a lot of the people are repeat customers. A police officer and a retail associate would have different personality traits. For instance, a retail associate must be well organized and able to prioritize. They must be reliable and dependable. Also they must have a pleasant and cheery disposition. The main two personality traits a retail associate must posse is being creative and being able to negotiate. “The retail sector has to...
