Personality Assessment and Theories

Assessing one’s personality can give psychologists a better understanding as too why people conduct themselves in a certain kind of way. The four theories used to assess personalities are psychodynamic, humanistic, trait, and cognitive-social learning. The first theory is psychodynamic theory, which circulates around unconscious thoughts such as motives, and feelings. This theory assesses the use of projective tests and private interview methods (Morris & Maisto, 2005).

The second theory is humanistic and this personality theory believes we are motivated and have the drive to work hard toward growth and higher functioning levels (Morris & Maisto, 2005). This theory assesses the use of objective test and personal interviews. The third theory is trait theory and the main concept of this theory is people are born with different personality traits and each person has a distinctive assembly of traits. This theory assesses the method of objective test. The last theory is social learning theory which focuses on previous events and reinforcement and punishment. This theory also reflects people internally organizing his or her expectancies and beliefs to guide his or her behavior. With “this set of personal standards being unique to each one of us, growing out of our own life history (Morris & Maisto, 2005). This theory can be learned behavior also. I believe this theory has three assesses, which can be of good use of interviews, observation, and objective test.

After carefully reading over my results of the personality test I believe my results were definitely accurate. The results labeled me an ESTJ. Extroverted 75%, sensing 75%, thinking 52.78%, and judging 71.05%. Administrator much in touch with the external environment. Very responsible. Pillar of strength 8.7%.
