Introduction

This assignment will describe the situation of Fast Serve, an organization that markets name brand sports gear, which started an online department that failed and led to terminating several employees. Five employees have been listed as candidates for termination and eventually three of them have been chosen to be laid-off. The reasons for the decision of terminating will be described, alongside the possible consequences and conflicts that can occur with each employee. To reduce conflict occurring several alternative disputes and recommended metrics will be discussed.

Employment Conflict Management

Fast Serve Incorporated is a company that has found a niche in direct marketing of branded sport apparel. The company has 350 employees and grossed over $25 million dollars in revenue. Once Fast Serve changed its direction to move to an ecommerce business, 10% of the workforce was moved toward this new department. Within a short time technology caused problems, such as shortcoming in transactions made online. The best decision for Fast Serve was to terminate its online business; in making this decision meant difficult choices needed to be made regarding downsizing the department. There are five employees who need to be discussed for redundancy; the scenario has placed me as the human resources manager who has to decide which employees to terminate. Diverse considerations are important for the final decision, and I should consider the possible consequences for FastServe of the decisions made. Often discrimination charges are made by employees toward the organization, this can lead to high costs, court cases, and negative publicity.
