Part 1

1. What is wrong with Josie? Why do you think so?

We considered her to be pregnant, simply because of her symptoms- nausea “a familiar found of nausea washed across her body” (Paragraph 1), vomiting “Josie vomited violently, again and again” (paragraph 5), and sharp pain in her abdomen “Josie reached for the phone on the counter and another lightning sharp pain ignited low in her abdomen forcing her to the floor” (Paragraph 5). Her job as an escort increases the likelihood.

Part 2

1. What do you think is wrong with Josie? Why do you think this?

We think she has panic attack right now. As we read part 2, her symptoms continue to persist even after her miscarriage, therefore we ruled out pregnancy. Most of her symptoms match the ones similar to panic attack.

2. If you changed your mind from what you thought after reading Part 1, what factors made you change your mind?

When her additional symptoms came to light, such as headache “I have headaches-terrible headaches.” (Paragraph 5), sweating “The lightning in her abdomen was intense and sweat pooled on her forehead and chest” (Paragraph 9), a sense of impending doom, tingling feeling “And I have this tingling feeling in my fingers and toes; like they’re falling asleep” (Paragraph 6), and her blood pressure, as stated by her Doctor: “is a little high” (Paragraph 6). We felt like panic attack is a very likely possibility.

Part 3

1. What do you think is now wrong with Josie? Why do think this?

We think now that Josie has Porphyria. Upon further evaluation, her symptoms like hallucinations, paranoia “Don’t you smell it? I’m rotting. My flesh is rotting and no one cares!” (Paragraph 24), and her sensitivity to light “Nurse Kitty held up her hand. “She doesn’t like the light,” she explained. “Says it causes her pain.” ” (Paragraph 22) and along with her reddish-purple urine, makes...
