TECH-RADIO CASE

Human Resource Management

Explain what you think may be the five priorities in HRM at Tech Radio and the five main difficulties which are to be solved in 2007. Tech Radio is expecting new needs (215 new jobs to be created) and internal transfers linked to an evolution towards more qualified jobs. How can the company anticipate these changes? What type of adjustment measures could be used to keep a good balance between needs and resources?

Introduction

Tech-Radio Inc was created in 1974 in Aix-en-Provence by Frank Balmain, a radio engineer. With the help of the city, its two main clients (giants in retail) and more importantly the superior quality of its radios, Balmain built a highly profitable company with a €6 million net profit after tax in 2006.

After some effort towards the export and in the anticipation of Balmain retirement, Daniel Moro was hired as Vice President in an attempt to make the company more attractive to prospective buyers. Moro quickly brought the company to diversify its activities to redefine the company’s business and thus enter a new field; the communications equipment for military use. To go through that diversification the company is expecting to create 215 new jobs and also to transfer current employees towards more qualified jobs. Tech-Radio had around 1,250 employees, a €1.1 budget in human resources that is to say that the HR department received €880 per employees.
