1. Religion Vs. Theology: Theological dimension.
2. Theology: Natural Vs. Revealed:
a. Natural: the knowledge we can have about God by using reason and our knowledge of the natural world alone. Natural theology is a part of Philsophy.
b. Revealed: the knowledge we can have about God arguing from what God has revealed to us and is recorded in the Sacred Scriptues. If I say simple “theology” I am always referring to revealed theology.
3. Religious faith Vs. ordinary faith:
a. Religious faith requires faith.
4. Arche in ancient Philosophy:
a. Principle, source, beginning.

6. Branches of philosophy: metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, politics, logic:
a. Metaphysics- the study of being and reality.
b. Epistemology- The study of knowledge (Philosophy of science os part of this)
c. Ethics- The study of good and evil
d. Politics- The study of the common good
e. Logic- The study of correct reasoning
7. Gracia on the History of Philosophy: Realists, Poet- Mystics, Critics:
a. Realists: the goal of philosophy is to know what there is (metaphysics). Humans, relying on reason and perception, can know reality.
b. Poet- Mystics- the goal of philosophy is to know what there is but mystical experience, not reason, gives this knowledge.
c. Critics- Philosophy cannot give us knowledge of reality (metaphysics is impossible). There are 2 main types: Skeptics (no knowledge) and Positivists ( only empirical knowledge).
