Survival Guide

The ability to succeed in school and life balances on the ability to follow many guidelines. This document will serve as a guide throughout my college courses to assist me in successfully completing my courses with the grade point average I desire. I can and will succeed by following these guidelines: “Using Axia’s Educational Resources, Upholding Academic Honesty, Setting and Achieving Goals, Managing Time Wisely, Fostering Reading Comprehension and Retention, and Applying Personality and Learning Styles.” (Axia College, n.d., Week One Supplement)

Using Axia’s Educational Resources

The Axia site is set up in such a way that I can download documents and audio to my computer or a portable device. This convenience allows many options. This will be very useful for when I am traveling and may run into problems logging in to the Axia site to obtain materials.

In the University Library I can search different databases to find information on various topics. I can search with key words, subject, or find a specific document with the title. I can use a wildcard search or Boolean search to find the articles I need for my research. (Axia College, 2008, Week Two Supplement).

Within each article I can find all the information needed for citing a document. This information includes the article title, publication date, authors, and the database name it was located in. An article also indicates if it is peer-reviewed or not. (Axia College, 2008, Week Two Supplement). I will try to use peer-reviewed documents. This will allow for the most accurate information to be used in my research.

Upholding Academic Honesty

The Axia academic honesty policy explains numerous types of academic dishonesty. I understand all the definitions of academic dishonesty and will make sure I never fall into this category. Regardless if dishonesty is intentional or unintentional a student can and will be punished.
