1. Data communications networks affect the company’s ability to communicate with its partners, suppliers, consumers, etc. It also affects the ability of employees to communicate between while collaborating in daily operations. Since today most companies do business on a global scale then the preferred methods of communication involve data transmitting virtually using the internet, email, messaging, etc. If the company does not invest enough resources in the network deployment it can suffer set back if its unable to communicate properly with others.

7. LAN is a group of microcomputers located in the same general area. The LAN covers a defined area such as a floor of a building or group of buildings. All computers are connected to each other hence the word Network in LAN, but they aren’t necessarily connected to the internet. These networks typically do not use common carrier circuits, and their circuits do not cross public thoroughfares or property owned by others. LANs are not regulated by the FCC or state public utilities commissions.

BN is a large network to which many networks within an organization are connected. It usually is a network that interconnects all networks on a single site. The BN can be larger than one site if it connects all the company’s terminals, microcomputers, mainframes, LANs and comm. equipment.

MAN is a network that covers a citywide area. It is larger than a LAN since it covers usually an entire city. MANs can span between 3 and 30 miles. A metropolitan area network (MAN) is a network that interconnects users with computer resources in a geographic area or region larger than that covered by even a large local area network. The term is applied to the interconnection of networks in a city into a single larger network.
