PASSING THE GED

INTRODUCTION:

In this research paper I will focus on the highest level of education completed in high school and the percentage of those that has passed the GED on the first attempt. GED is a registered trademark of the American Council on Education (ACE); it’s in charge of the GED test. GED stands for “general educational development”, the GED test measures a learners skills in a variety of important subjects. A GED test credential shows that an individual has the same general level of academic achievement as a typical high school graduate. X will equal the score of the individuals that have taken the GED for the first time and Y will equal the last grade that was completed by the individuals.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

The problem in this research paper is determining the relationship of the highest grade completed in school and the percentage of those that passed the GED on the first attempt. The percentage of high school students that has taken the GED test by the twelfth grade and passed it on the first attempt is a concern to the Department of Education for the fact that students are having to retake the GED test more than one time because they have failed at least one or two areas of the test and did not meet the require score that is needed to passed.

LITERATURE REVIEW:

Over 700,000 people take the GED test each year and over 50% pass. To receive a GED certificate one must receive a minimum standard score of 410 on more or each of the five GED test which are science, mathematics, social studies, language arts writing I & II and language arts reading, and an overall average standard score of 450 or more on the GED test, and receive a score of 2 or more on the essay exam. Most teachers will say that the math test is the hardest for students to pass, along with the writing test. It is also stated that females get the lowest score...
