Imagine yourself as a person who suffers from the Autistic Disorder. Completely shut off from the world, unable to communicate with those around you. You are in a silent world. Those with Autistic tendencies have a definite struggle when trying to deal with society today. Many jobs and employment agencies require speaking abilities and heightened social skills. Not only is it hard in the job market, but Autism also affects one’s living arrangements. People who are Autistic many never have the independence to be able to live their lives, in ways that are similar to the way we live our lives.

The Autism Services and Workforce Acceleration Act of 2011 is working to provide for enhanced treatment, support, services, and research for people affected by the autism disorders; not only the inflicted individual but for their families as well. The program established by this bill is intended to advance the integration into employment for those with autism disorders and help reduce inappropriate emergency room use, avoidable hospitalizations and doubling of health care services, reduce health care inconsistencies and prevent inappropriate involvement with the juvenile and criminal justice systems. This program would come to be known as the Autism Care Program, and would be established mainly as a demonstration project. This bill was introduced to Congress’s attentions on April 14, 2011. Currently it is in the first step in the legislative process. This bill is being sponsored by Senator Richard Durbin, a democrat from Illinois.

To become an official law, the bill must first go through committees. Committees are like the actual Congress, only smaller. Several congressional committees will first judge the bill and the ‘report’ in either a favorable or unfavorable light to the whole Congress.
