Long term effects on the environment
Fact, it is known by any adult that trying to breathe in a smoke filled room, it is also medical fact that second hand smoke will have adverse effects on ones’ body; however, what happens to the human body when there is no indoor room, and one takes a breath of contaminants while outdoors?
According to the National Resources Defense Council, medical studies have linked long term exposure to air pollution to pulmonary disease, a disease that has a co-occurrence of chronic bronchitis and emphysema where airways become narrowed limiting the flow of air, and lung cancer, especially in children, as air pollution can decrease lung capacity by 20% for a child thus making a child four times as likely to develop asthma. Then there are the heavy metals to consider.
Heavy metals in the air, like lead, mercury and iron are toxic to a human body, when inhaled these elements can start to build up in a body, and over time will cause health problems as there becomes higher concentrations, these dangers include, but are not limited to nerve damage, and birth defects, learning disabilities, and improper bran functions, as well it can cause cancer. Then there is the effect of global warming.
Air pollution, not only has effects on humans, but it also clutches the environment in its grasp. Carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas, traps the suns heat, and in return keeps the earth warm as it increases the temperature due to there is more being produced then the earth can filter out. But how do these translate when it comes to the perspectives of the major stakeholders?
