Stress Management

Stress can be defined as “a state of mental or emotional strain during which the perceived demands of the environment exceed the perceived ability/resources to cope” (Johnston, 2006). Stress has always been an issue I have had trouble overcoming. From school to work I turn anything into a bigger problem than it really is. I feel helpless trying to solve any problem that may arise even if it’s something out of my control.

The kinds of information I would gather to help in solving this problem would be the following: how to manage stress, how it affects every day life, ways to overcome stress, methods to avoid stress, and how to not let stress take over your life. Some of the places I would use to acquire the answers to this information would be the internet, books, doctors, scholarly studies, and my peers.

The process I would use to evaluate the information that I gather would be to break the information into parts. By doing so I can analyze the information gathered and see how it relates to each other and to the information I already know (Carter, Bishop, Kravits, 2007). Some of the things I would take into consideration would be to distinguish between fact or opinion, and whether it’s a perspective or an assumption. There are many sources out there with information that sound valid but it’s important to know how to differentiate. Not everything is a reliable source so knowing where to look is the key.

With the information I collect I will take what pertains most to me and my problem. I will read and analyze everything to find the most suited resolution. As I take into consideration possible solutions I will ask myself questions pertaining to my problem and see if and how I could answer them with the information I have gathered. I will generate solutions based on causes not on the effects. It is also important to find solutions that will have the best outcomes for me personally. Not all solutions are appropriate for everyone.
