Thesis: Drug abuse is a serious problem. Marijuana is a gateway drug to more illicit drugs, teenage substance abuse is alarming, and drug abusers are at risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases.

This website will help me to research possible solutions to drug abuse. It has information that helps parents on how to take action when they suspect or even know that their child is using. It explains how to help people with a drug problem from yourself to teenagers to other adults. It also lists treatment types for certain situations and the stages of the treatment. The website also provides personal stories from people who abused drugs and from loved ones of those who used.

This article will help me to explain some of the drugs that are being abused such as marijuana, alcohol, cocaine, and heroin. It provides statistics that will help me strengthen my argument that drug abuse is a serious problem and is not getting any better. It states the drug-related deaths and crimes have increased since the 90’s at alarming rates and burden our society with approximately $67 billion in social, health, and criminal costs each year. It explains how drug abuse can be harmful in a variety of settings such as home, school, or work. It reports that many people in the workplace are reported to using illicit drugs on a regular basis which adds to my argument that drug abuse is a serious problem.
