Introduction

Toxic managers are a sad reality existing in many work places. They are moody, aggressive, and always blaming others. They manage the work through fear and they think that their subordinates will do better job if they are terrified or threatened. They mark the environment making it seem like a war zone (Lubit, 2004). Toxic managers can be divided into four categories. Narcissistic managers admire themselves and like to exploit and control others for the sake of their own benefits. Aggressive managers are ruthless and have high stress level. They intimidate their subordinates and ignore their feelings and concerns. Rigid managers are those who insist to do things the way they want. They fear to make mistakes and they tend to be authoritarian. Impaired managers usually suffer from psychological problems or some kind of deficiencies that affect their abilities to work effectively (Lubit, 2004). Dealing with toxic conducts and changing difficult behaviors requires that we understand what lies behind them Lubit (2004). Developing our emotional intelligence skills can do this. It is the ability to understand our strengths and weaknesses as well as the environment around us.

Focus

Some characteristics of my management style in my personal insight profile describe me as somebody who tends to become irritated with lack of organization, preparation or perfection. I can be frustrated with those less gifted than myself. I set rigid guidelines for completion of tasks. I insist upon attention to detail. And I over regulate processes.
