Final Project - Case Study

Michael is experiencing chronic stress which is affecting his life every day. He has important concerns about the ending of his marriage as well as the possibility of losing his job. Michael wishes he can spend more time with his young children since he fought to gain joint custody of them, but because of his work schedule he cannot do so. He also fears that without employment he will not be able to support his children and lose his home. All of these concerns have Michael experiencing physical symptoms of chest pains which has him believing he will die. The main stressors of his life are lack of time and money. Michael’s health is at risk since the stressors are intense and constant in his life. It is highly possible that Michael is experiencing anxiety which includes depression. In order for Michael to overcome the anxiety and depression, he needs to develop and begin to apply coping skills so he can perform better at his job and ease the physical symptoms he’s experiencing. Putting these initiatives into effect would not only make Michael feel better mentally but also physically as well while increasing his chances of remaining employed and giving his children the best quality time when he does get to be with them.

The stressors in Michael’s life have a negative impact of his self-concept as well as his self-esteem. Dealing with a divorce, job cuts, and lack of time spent with his children has Michael feeling inadequate and insecure. He may be thinking his life is hopeless and that he is alone in this world or the only person experiencing these issues. He may even feel as though he will be stuck in this rut forever instead of seeing that he is the only person that can pull himself out of this slump. Michael may feel the need to have total control over these situations but this is not the case since he is not...
