Subject: “Looking for love in all the wrong places”

INTRODUCTION

Many of us have had the misfortune of looking for love in all the wrong places. Leash, who was the oldest of Laban’s daughters, was givens to Jacob in marriage by deception after Jacob had worked 7 years for her younger sister, Rachel. Leah is described in the bible as being tender eyed or weak eyed. While her sister Rachel is described as being beautiful and well-favored. Jacob loved Rachel more than Leah. Leah knew she couldn’t compete with Rachel for the love of Jacob. Leah was unloved and unseen. Leah began looking for love in all the wrong places.

BODY

Like Leah, we all have looked for love in all the wrong places and as painful as it is to admit, some of us are still looking for love in all the wrong places. Although Leah’s situation was not good, God was still able to move in the midst of her mess. There are 3 things that Leah had:

1. Leah had a PROBLEM: The problem with Leah was that she was

looking for love in all the wrong places. Leah wanted to be loved by everyone who was connected to her during this time, which was her father, sister, and mostly her husband Jacob. But Leah was 2nd rated when it came to them. Her father 2nd rated her because he saw 2 opportunities (to get free labor and to get rid of a old maid). Leah felt 2nd rated when it came to her sister Rachel because everyone thought Rachel was the most beautiful and favored and most of all, Rachel had the love of Jacob. And finally, Jacob 2nd rated Leah. Jacob didn’t love Leah- he loved Rachel and would do anything for Rachel, even years later when Jacob was about to meet his brother Esau for the first time after their bitter parting, Jacob put Leah and her children on the front line of defense and kept Rachel and her children in the back to protect them.
