Root of Evil

As the young cashier gave me back my change, the thought of Oprah’s special about 200 pound ten-year-olds came into my mind. Billy was the topic of discussion for this episode. I remembered Billy on Oprah and the food he ate as his mother talked about how mysterious it was that her son could not lose weight. He was eating a multitude of snickers bars all throughout the interview. This resulted in his face being covered in the brown chocolate. He ate like he was the fattest Ethiopian person on the verge of starvation. He wore skin tight blue jeans and a yellow faded transformers t-shirt. Billy enjoyed watching poker on ESPN, playing Madden Online, and eating something new every day. His mother was no more than 140 pound. It looked like they could be married. At one point in the interview Billy began to cry.

Instead of the depressed son sitting on the loving, comforting lap of the mother, she sat on his. If someone was flipping through the channels and saw this bizarre scene they would have thought Billy was on of those drunk Mall Santas who smells you child’s hair. My insights in the obesity of juveniles came to an abrupt end as the letters written on my five dollar bill caught my eye.

The cashier didn’t notice the words on the five dollar bill as her hand made contact with mine. Her hand was soft to the touch. It did not surprise me because judging from her sweet aroma and beautiful face, she took great pride in attracting married men. Finding my friend’s present in Barnes and Noble had taken far too long. The day was disappearing and night would soon be upon me. I needed to get back to my friend’s birthday party.
