What is the main purpose of ambulatory care?

The main purpose of ambulatory care is pain control.

After you have had surgery your doctor wants to make sur your pain level is controlled before letting you go home. When your in the outpatient area your nurse makes sure your pain level is a five or below before your able to be discharged. Your required to have someone who is able to drive you home, you may be drowzy so the nurse has to give instructions to the person who’s came with the patient, then they can relate the instructions to you once your able to remember, this is standard practice. Another purpose for ambulatory care is when the Physician requires the patients to go to other clinic’s or another departments to further diagnose what actully needs to be done. For example I had to have surgery on my shoudler but my doctor couldn’t determine what the extend of it was until I had a MRI done.

Do I think ambultory care is changing society’s veiw on health care?

I can’t speak for everyone but my personal opinion is, there could be advantages and disadvangtages for society. Some people like the idea of being able to that clinic that specialize in just what there diagnose is like optical, xray, PT.ect . And maybe there are people who don’t like the idea of havingW to go home the same day like my mother she doesn’t believe in a person should have to go home the same day, after a procedure. I have to reassure her that technology has changed from when she was younger.

How can it’s services improve?

Well from what I’ve observed since working in a ambulatory care setting, there are longer wait times because some Ambulatory Care don’t have enough space to hold there patient population expanding would be nice..
