“Choice of Religion” Religion, as we know it, is a system of either personal orinstitutionalized beliefs and ways of worship. For some, it is more than just what they believe, it is how they live their life based on those beliefs. With that said, the United States has become a country where you can worship almost any belief out there. From Buddhism to the different forms of Christianity, the first Amendment which states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion…” allows Americans to exercise their dogmas. However, the United States government gives great to power to religion of Christianity. The usage of the word “God” is overexposed all throughout the government, contradicting the first Amendment. The separation of church in state has almost become nonexistent. “In God We Trust” is scripted on American currency, God is said when we pledge allegiance, and even the bible is used when we are sworn under oath in a courtroom. How can America, land of the free, capitalize on one religion, when we are supposed to be a country of diversity? The United States government indirectly forces the house of Christianity by commanding them toabide by the government that is based on a certain religion. It is obvious that with the growth of the American population and its diversity a change needs to be made separating church and state. During the first years of the American government, the connection between state and church waslooked at as separate but coincidently came hand in hand. Most that were involved with the set up of the American government had a conservative, Christianity background giving full reason as to why the two connect. However since then, the government has made decisions to meeting the First Amendments “guideline”. God was first stamped onto US currency in the 1860’s, but it wasn’t until much later that those against the government and church, but in favor of the first amendment began to win in trial.
