You are at you graduation dinner. Your best friend or favorite relative stands up and talks about your five most significant strengths that contributed to your successful graduation from college. What do you think they are?

I think that there are several strengths that will contribute to me successfully graduating from college. Of them, I believe that the five most significant that will enable me to reach that goal are; my desire to grow as a person, open-mindedness, self-awareness, organization, and practicality.

My desire to grow as a person is what helps me to stay committed to my education. I understand that the only way to grow is through continuous learning. By exposing myself to new techniques and philosophies, I will discover more effective ways to interact with people or handle situations that I may not have considered in the past.

My open-mindedness has enabled me to further nurture this desire by enrolling in a distance learning program. Once in the online environment, my open-mindedness has allowed me to interact with my peers with success. I am able to learn from them by reading their posts and applying some of the methods they have used to my life.

The fact that I have a high level of self-awareness has enabled me to generate learning goals will enable me to succeed. Understanding how I learn and my obligation to my peers and instructors, i.e. exchanging meaningful conversations with them and fully committing to my assignments, will translate to a more enriching learning experience.

Using my organizational skills, I have been able to prioritize my commitments to my family, my work, and my education. By staying organized, referring to my syllabus frequently as I work through my classes and using a planner to plot out my game plan for each week, I will be able to stay on track with my classes. I will be able to schedule the time that I need to absorb fully each lesson.
