For the final project I plan on pointing out that social security is not in its current state a viable retirement option. It will be my goal to show what can be done to help ensure that it becomes a better system for those who are currently forced to participate in the program as well as those of us who are young enough to make successful alternative plans to ensure we are not left without a viable option in our golden years. There are many sides to the issue of fixing a broken system and I plan on finding through research the most viable of these options and showing that with work we can once again come back to rely on the idea of social security in America. I plan on showing that the social security system in its current state cannot sustain itself and what some other options will be in ensuring we do not fail ourselves by relying on the current system to be there for those of us who will not be retiring for another forty or fifty years.

My overall point of view will be that the current system is not able to provide its current recipients with a quality of life comparable to when they were working as well as some useful alternative strategies for those of us who are still required by law to participate. I plan on finding the most viable alternative plans for fixing social security as well as how to plan for your own retirement while participating in the system as required by law. I plan on touching base on a few strategies out there currently to plan for your own retirement such as Iras and 401 ks. The overall tone of my paper will be to give the reader a sense of hope in restoring the power of social security while still planning for their own future. I do not feel that the current system provides a quality of life that is fair for the workers who spent their entire careers paying into it. I also hope to briefly touch on the issues concerning health care costs and the link between social security and Medicare and Medicaid. I want to showcase that...
