The Brown family is African American, and comprise of a twenty-five year old mother, forty eight-year old father, and her five children. The children are ages nine, eight, four, three and one -years old. The family resides in the North Philadelphia area of Philadelphia and is Muslim. The father in the home is the biological father to the two youngest children. The nine- year old and eight- year old children have separate fathers who are both incarcerated. The four -year old child’s father resides in Philadelphia and has a relationship with his daughter. The mother doesn’t work, and receives social security benefits. The father is a teacher and handy man at the Muslim school. Mr. Brown is the primary breadwinner, and the mother depends on him for her primary financial support. The mother has been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression and Bi-polar disorder. She has been inconsistent with her therapy and medication, and has been hospitalized on several occasions after she has had manic episodes. Father denies any history of drug / alcohol abuse or mental health issues. Although father has no history of mental health or drug/alcohol issues, he appeared to be controlling and uses money to manipulate the mother. The parents have no outstanding medical issues. Both parents seem to have a lot of family support but it is unclear how much of their problems they revealed to their families. Although I have provided psychosocial data on the family, my paper focuses on the father as my client.

The family became known to the Department as result of the mother calling the child abuse hotline to report an incident where she caught her nine-year old biological son performing oral and anal sex on his four-year old biological sister. Mother reported that she...
