Wearable Devices or “Wearable Computing”; from gadgets through clothing and even tattoos (thank you Nokia). No, not your cell phone by the way; yes, todays’ cell phones are impressive, and way more powerful than my first computer, but let’s avoid tagging cell phones as Wearable Devices… for now at least.
Broad is the role they play across all industries; from Healthcare to Military, across Marketing and throughout the business world in all its sizes and flavors, Wearable Devices have been around and in use for a while now, but you haven’t seen the half of it.
Mostly recognized for their role in the medical industry, wearable devices have been around since the 1970’s.
What is not so broad is the fact that Wearable Devices are poised to be the next hot and heavy stomping grounds for manufacturers, brands and consumers. An all-out clash “of The Titans” sort of scenario; with Localized Marketing gaining more and more pull, it is only natural progression that those vehicles that translate localized strategies into interactions become the next big thing. According to Forrester, it is only a mater of getting some traction from the “Big Five”, and Wearable Devices will take off into the mainstream. I agree, and a little love from the “mobile payment” front would not hurt either.

Wearable devices, or “wearables” for short, have enormous potential for uses in health and fitness, navigation, social networking, commerce, and media. Imagine video games that happen in real space. Or glasses that remind you of your colleague’s name that you really should know. Or paying for a coffee at Starbucks with your watch instead of your phone.
