Effects of Quality Management
For the past 60 years, the concept of total quality management has slowly began to influence the strategies and practices of numerous organizations in an effort to gain competitive share, become more customer oriented, and more efficient. According to Ehow (2011), companies that adapt quality management “have become able to ensure quality in their products and services,” (Para. 2). Programs such as Total Quality Management, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints are available as guides for entrepreneurs and organizations. Although no two organizations will use the same approach to resolve their issues, the goal remains the same. “Business remains the same to generate a high quality, high-executing product or service that conforms to and passes the customers' expectations” (Ehow, 2011, Para. 1). Quality management practices therefore become significant to many organizations for numerous reasons.
In this paper the author will analyze the concept of quality management as it relates to two distinct organizations that compete in the same industry. A similar procedure or process in the chosen organizations, American Airlines and Lufthansa Airlines will be explained. An explanation of why the process produces a competitive service in the domestic and global markets will be outlined. Last, an explanation will be provided on how quality management affects the position of these companies in the domestic and global market.
