General Motors Case
INTRODUCTION
General Motors is an American company devoted to the production of cars and trucks. It was founded in the year 1908 and headquartered in Detroit. For long time General Motors has been considered one of the giants of the North American economy and the leader of the automobile sector.
The company was first founded on September 16, 1908, in Flint, Michigan, as a holding company for Buick, and then controlled by William C. Durant. GM's co-founder was Charles Stewart Mott, whose carriage company was merged into Buick prior to GM's creation.
General Motors does business in more than 120 countries and with his strategic partners produces cars and trucks in more than 31 countries. General Motors owns a large number of car brands, the most known ones Cadillac, Chevrolet, Daewoo and Opel but he also has other ones like Baojun, Buick, FAW, GMC, Holden, Isuzu, Jiefang, Vauxhall, and Wuling.
Traditionally the main market of General Motors has been the American market but nowadays General Motor’s largest national market is China followed by the United States, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Russia.
In 2009 during the economic global crisis General Motors declared bankruptcy and for doing the restructuration they created a new company called General Motors Company which owns the most valuable belongings of the old General Motor which changed the name from General Motors Corporation to Motors Liquidation Company.
