Being Happy Kacy Urban Overall it seemed to me that they were basically looking for relationships because they were more likely to do things when they were with other people. All agreed that they wouldn’t do simple things like eating out in a restaurant, going to a movie, or go dancing without someone with them. I was surprised by the guys because they were the gender that seemed to care more about having a girlfriend. None of them came right out and said it but comments were madeabout their self-esteem being lower when they were single. This took me by surprise because I thought it would be the women who would focus on this issue more. On big difference between the genders was livingin the present. The women talked more about their futures or pasts and valued their selvesmore on external things. An example is doing well on an upcoming exam and making sure they were prepared for it. All talked about graduating from school, getting married and having kids. The guys, on the other hand, mentioned items that were more in the moment like: going out this weekend, working on their car and what level of the video game they are now on. It didn’t mean that they didn’t care or think about their pasts and futures but they acknowledge more of what was going on today.
