Catholicism 2

Catholicism is one of the religions that have been around for centuries. It has been through several trials and tribulations. The followers that are Catholic have held this religion sacred by keeping the practices and religions as part of their daily lives.

I went to mass one Sunday morning and it was very interesting. They have the bowl of holy water that they dip their fingers in and make the cross motion as they enter the church. There are several of Hail Mary prayers that they kneel down on their knees for. There was a bench in front of their seat so it made it easier on them to get up and they did not have to kneel on the hard floor even though there was carpet down. They have communion every Mass were they eat of the bread and drink the juice in remembrance of Jesus. The morning mass lasted an hour, and with every ritual that they have there is prayer with the standing and kneeling.

I am Baptist so I am going to compare Baptist with Catholicism. Baptist and Catholicism are both Christians but also were both built on different foundations, but they still have some of the same beliefs. They both believe in the second coming of Jesus. When confessing their sins Catholics confess to their priest and Christians pray directly to God. They both believe that Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary.

There are some questions that I asked in my interview to GY. He is the priest at Saint Mary were I attended mass.

1. Why do you only eat fish on Good Friday?

The practices are that all Catholics that are 14 and older are to abstain from eating meat on Fridays during lent, not just on Good Friday, this is to honor the Passion of Jesus.

2. What does crossing yourself before you sit or after prayer mean?
