Lyle’s a character in the play that has had an unfortunate life, and is shadowed with bad luck. Lyle’s sister in law Dibs sees his bad fortune so she makes an effort to improve his luck, but as Lyle says in the play it all went down the bloody gurgler. Some may think its Lyles fault and that he’s cursed with bad luck because he brings it on himself, if he was a bit nicer maybe things would go his way but he’s an arrogant, abusive alcoholic that has no regard for others and by being an arrogant person in this way it could be karma that brings his unfortunate luck before him.

Girlie Delaney and Dibs Hamilton are two twin sisters n the play and when the family is brought to celebrate their eightieth birthday, speculation grows as to who will be the one to inherit the family property, Allandale, when the ageing Farley Hamilton is gone. Girlie and Dibs look to their luck to decide who gets the freedom of making their own futures, and who gets the duty of taking care of the farm and keeping it together, and all this is going to be decided by a flip of a coin. The most popular choice was freedom, but once Girlie received freedom she stuffed it up and ended back on the farm, so even though Dibs didn’t get what she wanted she was still better off and maybe didn’t success in money but she was victorious in the better life and had a sense of belonging.
