The report below examines nursing research literature based on two articles. The first article, “Implementation of Clinical Guidelines for Adults with Asthma and Diabetes: a three- year follow-up evaluation of nursing care”, reports a longitudinal follow-up study in Canada nursing care after implementing Guidelines on Adult Asthma Care Best Practice (Kathryn et al, 2010). The second article “Urinary Incontinence in Pregnant women and their quality of life”, reports a descriptive and cross-sectional survey on urinary incontinence disorder in pregnant women and the related risks, as well as, examining its effects in life (Semra et al, 2010).
Article one: Implementation of clinical guidelines for adults with asthma and diabetes: a three- year follow-up evaluation of nursing care.
In Canada, there is an association for registered nurses, which developed and published 45 guidelines, associated with healthy work and nursing practice environments. The main aim is to describe resulting changes after implementation of the guidelines. The changes include delivery of health care services to the community and hospital settings.
Step 1
The research question of this report is to examine how the new guidelines on asthma impacted delivery of services to the community and hospital settings (Kathryn et al, 2010).
Site interviews and observations were done with major informers at one hospital, which implemented Adult Asthma Care Best Practice Guideline (Kathryn et al, 2010, p. 1329). They compared changes related to nursing care that were identified after the implementation with indicators from similar audit sites before implementation. Additionally, the results for the two periods were compared using fisher exact tests.
