Halliburton is a business that was founded in 1919 that provides engineering and construction services to the energy industry, infrastructure companies, and to several governments across the world. The company consists of two divisions: Drilling and Evaluation and Completion and Production. Halliburton is close to being the world’s largest products and services providers to the energy industry. It does business in approximately 70 different countries and has over 50,000 employees. Their two divisions have accounted for over 14 billion dollars in revenue. Keeping these two divisions aligned in the Planning process is difficult but is being done on a consistent basis by the Halliburton team. The firm describes itself on its Web site as a company furthering their global commitment to sustainability. In their planning process the goal is to offer safe, competitive, and high quality products and services. As a global and corporate organization Halliburton understands that the sustainability of their business depends on how they treat the world around them. As they look for new sources of energy it will take them to many different places around the world. But there is one thing that guides these actions, Its Halliburton’s dynamic vision statement: "To be welcomed as a good corporate neighbor in our communities; to do no harm to the environment; to provide demonstrable social and economic benefits through sustainable relationships, sustainable technology and sustainable sourcing; and to validate our progress through transparency and reporting." (Halliburton, 2010, p. 1) Sustainability, which means to do no harm to the environment, is definitely a factor that has influenced the company’s planning strategy.
