Best Practices Manual

I will discuss what it means to be a beneficial and respectable supervisor. This manual will cover six supervisory responsibilities to contribute to best practices. These responsibilities include: demonstrating communication skills, determining effective orientation and training methods, improving productivity for teams, conducting performance appraisals, resolving conflict, and improving employee relations. These items will be discussed and thoroughly covered in this manual. At the completion of this manual you should have a greater understanding of what it means to be a wholesome supervisor.

Demonstrating good communication skills begins when a potential employee walks in the door to ask for an application. Your receptionist or secretary should be kind, friendly and easily approachable. She should be able to answer any questions that this person may have about the company. This person’s first impression of the company will be based on your receptionist. A good supervisor should hire persons who are capable and friendly, who can also complete job tasks in a timely manner. A supervisor should provide an open door policy in regards to questions or concerns in and on the job. An employee should feel comfortable when approaching their supervisor with concerns. The management had better be willing to listen. They must not do all the talking. An important part of listen and communication is asking questions to verify clarity on the issues at hand. Suggestions to solve the issues can be given, but most importantly support always available.
