‘Historic figure: Martin Luther King, Jr.
Born in 1929, Martin Luther King, Jr. rose from being a Baptist minister to become one of the greatest voices in America. Luther, through the Civil Rights Movement, pushed for racial equality and justice for all people irrespective of their origin or race. Through his relentless agitation and efforts, Luther left behind a legacy that is unmatched in the American history. From bus boycotts to pushing for changes in laws that were discriminatory to becoming one of the youngest recipients of the coveted Nobel Peace Prize, Martin Luther became an icon in his own way. Although his life was taken away by an assassin’s bullet at a very young age, King’s achievements and contributions continue to be felt and be enjoyed up to this day (Fleming 12).
According to John Kirk, the peaceful protests of Mahatma Gandhi greatly influenced the actions of Martin Luther King Jr. (25).
