It is estimated that 160,000 children miss school every day due to fear of attack or intimidation by other students. American schools house approximately 2.1 million bullies and 2.7 million of their victims. This is an issue that before a couple of years ago was not really spoken about. Just recently light has been shed on the series of these tragic events that have infected our schools. Today because of the unlimited access to the World Wide Web bullying has transformed into a whole new animal and has maximized the level of bullying that occurs. Because of the internet students are not only getting bullied at school the taunting and teasing now follows them home.

This has been an interesting last few weeks. I was given the opportunity to be a part of a group of twelve of the strongest students that I have yet to come across. Out of these twelve students I had the pleasure of interviewing four of them. This opportunity became the direction of how I would conduct my research for my project. Questions formed that would not have if not a part of this group .Not only did these teens have to deal with the academic pressure of high school but they also were victims of social bullying amongst their peers. These students were extremely open in these groups. Groups ran twice a week for 9 consecutive weeks, I was not able to attend all the groups but the times that I was present gave me a complete look into the reality of the subject of bullying. These teens faced being teased because of physical appearance, sexuality, and just being the new girl who felt different from the other kids. I was saddened to see that majority of the victims in the group were victims of bullying due to their sexuality. No matter what kind of bullying the effects that the bullied are left with could be so overwhelming causing them to take their lives.
