Hiring the Best Employees It is important for an organization to hire the right employees for the jobs they need filled. As one of my most knowledgeable professors have told me, “Hire hard and manage easy.” It is imperative for organizations to know how to attract the top performers for the job, how to do the interviewing, checking out their top prospects, and making the final decision on whom to hire. Some other ways of advertising for a position needing to be filled is through paper advertising such as a newspaper. Also advertising websites can be used such as Monster or Jobs.com. You can also go with a staffing firm. With staffing firms, you tell them what kind of employee you need, and they find the person for you, therefore you don’t have to bother with the recruiting process. After advertising, there will be many resumes on your desk to look through. Some red flags to look for that will help you eliminate a lot of them are to look for typos and grammatical errors. Also, looking at spelling and punctuation will help you fish out the resumes not work looking into. Look at the organization of the resume, and see if it has a lack of dates on the past work experience part. This might mean they are trying to disguise something. It is recommended to separate the resumes into three piles. The no’s, the maybe’s and the must interview. The person conducting the interview needs to decide what kind of interview to do. There are four different types: Informal, General, Standardized, and Closed. Informal is a conversational interview, which doesn’t have pre-determined set of questions to ask. General interviews have a guide of what kind of things to ask your interviewees. Standardized interviews are when you ask every candidate the same questions. Finally, closed interviews are where the candidates are all asked the same questions, and have to choose from answer choices.
