The State's track record in defence and aerospace has provided a powerful platform for innovation and expansion in ICT (Information and Communications Technology). More than 1,100 companies contribute to business growth across a range of South Australia's key industries as well as the expansion of customers around the world.

Broadband and Communication Initiatives

Construction of SABREN et, a 120-km ultra high-speed optic cable, links universities, research and medical institutes, major hospitals, defence and government agencies and many schools across Adelaide. It serves the Adelaide Innovation Constellation precincts of Waite, Thebarton, Mawson Lakes, Flinders and (incentral Adelaide) Florey. linking five physical precincts in a virtual collaborative environment.

The 100km SABRENet (South Australian Broadband Research and Education Network) fibreoptic network provides the technical backbone that is a critical enabler for our researchers across all the innovation precincts to compete on the global stage. It provides ultra-high-speed broadband communications, and was funded by State, Commonwealth and university co-investment. SABRENet also has high speed connections beyond South Australia. Among the beneficiaries of SABRENet is E-Research SA, which delivers expertise, facilities and advice to the South Australian research community for research collaboration, data management, high performance computing and visualisation technologies.
