The treaty of Versailles was so unfair for numerous reasons that I personally don't think would happen in our day and age.

The fact that this was a so called peace treaty, one would think that there would be a protocol or a certain steps to take to make this a fair compromise for all countries involved. Well, "all countries involved"!

The countries or allies of Germany first of all were not even invited to attend the peace talks, so to say this was going to be fair in the beginning is impossible.  Secondly, the treaty was held in France. France was the one country that had the biggest grudge against the Germans and their allies. After all, Germany had attacked France in the past and having it in France is the farthest from neutral you can get.

Now, I do believe that there were some good things accomplished in the treaty talks. The obvious one is it really opened the door for the US to become a great world power. It was after this era that we were now apart of the "Big Three". Also, there were new borders aligned, I think again this benefited the US because Wilson knew this was going to be very important for our international trade with Europe.

In conclusion, the treaty was ultimately necessary and Germany and its allies needed to be punished. They should pay and they did pay. They should have been weakened so the threat of this happening again is slim. Where it falls short is it instead of recognizing why or how the war came to fruition, the concentration was to just unfairly punish Germany.
