The Relationship Between Management, Information Systems and Effective Industrial Engineering Practice

Abstract

Due to major shifts in the contemporary world, specifically in technology advances, manufacturing processes and systems are being integrated with incentive technology, operating systems and computer hardware as a means of reducing costs while on the other hand increase productivity and profitability. This has lead to emergence of virtual manufacturing firms that promotes ensuring that consumer demands are constantly met while respecting their tastes and preferences. Virtual manufacturing integrates operating systems, computer hardware and stimulation technology with production systems and processes. However, while virtual manufacturing promotes productivity and profitability, the people involved and the software must be effectively and efficiently networked. Therefore, this research investigates the relationship between leadership and the use of virtual manufacturing for effective manufacturing and production. The paper provides concise introduction, a systematic review of literature on virtual manufacturing and leadership, assessment and discussion of findings. Moreover, a summary of the finding in series of statements is also provided besides a concrete conclusion. The paper culminates with proposed recommendations for further studies.
