Steroids in Sports and the effects they have?

Statistics always seem to show that steroid use by athletes is at an alarming high. This is a huge concern because it is detrimental to the health of the professional athletes. It also affects others, such as young adults and children, because professional athletes are examples and role models to them. If these populations think that it is okay or the in thing to do then they are going to use enhancing substances as well. We need to prevent young athletes from thinking that they need to use steroids in order to be successful. This paper will help us learn more facts about steroids what affects they may have. Through my research paper I am going to provide a definition of steroids, discuss the use of steroids in sports and report what percentage of professional athletes are using steroids.

Steroids have been around for a long time (how long? reference?). There are different types of steroids. Some are used for medical reasons such as asthma and cancer. Others are performance enhancing, which is what will be focused on in this paper.

Performance enhancing steroids (define, what do they do?). There are several types of steroids that are available and being used. Following are some of the names and information on these steroids. “Androstenedione (Andro) Androstenedione (Andro) is a designer steroid often mentioned in relation with athletes, although there is little scientific evidence to support its effectiveness in improving sports performance. Andro is a supplement made from a naturally occurring steroid hormone. In 2004, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned the sale of Andro due to increasing evidence that showed serious health risks to those using the substance (reference).
