FORDHAM

1. Describe your professional progress to this point as your short term and long term career goals. How do you expect Fordham Business to benefit your future career needs? (750-1000 words)

It was a scary period during my senior year of college when I found myself searching for jobs. Very often I would find myself wondering what am I doing? Just the year before, I had decided to change my major from pre-medicine to economics, which resulted in my taking 7 economics related courses during the last school year, 5 of them in the fall semester. Needless to say, it was a whirlwind. In the beginning, I struggled to just keep up with my classmates but I soon began to find my stride. People were pretty shocked when they learned I decided to switch majors at such a critical juncture in one's college career and the fact that I was 'overloading' on economics courses in order to graduate in time. To me, that decision wasn't one not thought out. For me, the only way for me to learn as efficiently as possible is to become completely immersed in my studes and I found the only way I could do this was to have an intensive year of economics. Now there I was, competing with my fellow classmates, some of whom had already had three finance internships during their summer breaks, while I had nothing. How was I to even be on the same playing field with no experience?

It was an embarrassing point for me when I saw how my friends in economics were picked for first round interviews, then second round while I received virtually no invites. I wasn't used to not being an enviable candidate for something I wanted to pursue. I didn't give up, even when most banking and fiannce related interviews at my school were concluded by mid fall semester. I branched out to all my contacts and applied for openings online, every day, for months. It was a pretty bleak time, since most people knew that if you weren't offeeered a position in the fall semester, chances were slim...
