Based on the article of Understanding Sleep Disorders in a College Student Population by Dallas R. Jensen, he said College student sleep habits are changing dramatically, and related sleep problems are increasing.  Sleep problems of college students, especially full-time students who are experiencing high levels of stress because of the demands of academic performance, present an intriguing topic for examination. Sleep problems and disorders have shown a marked increase since serious study of the topic began in the 1950s (Carskadon & Taylor, 1997).

Brandon Peters, M.D. believes that it is commonly happen among students. There are many potential causes of acute insomnia such as changes in noise, lighting, temperature, or other conditions of the sleep space, medications especially those with stimulant properties, use of or withdrawal from caffeine, nicotine or alcohol, pain, stress and nocturia or known as night time urination.

“It has been shown that sleep disorder induces sleepiness and reduces daytime alertness and performance.”
