Whole Foods

Whole foods market is a food grocer based on Texas, and now has about 270 stores located in USA, Canada and the UK.

Whole Foods Market is a food retailer of "natural" and organic products, including produce, seafood, grocery, meat and poultry, bakery, prepared foods and catering, beer, wine, cheese, whole body, floral, pet products, and household products. The company also sells a selection of conventional national brands.

-Current Market Situation:

Whole Foods stock was worth to $12.08 at the end of March, 6, and it ranks as the 369th in Fortune 500 in year 2008, and ranked 22th in “Best companies to work for” in 2009.

Factors used to consider in ranking companies include: pay, job growth, turnover, benefits, perks and number of women and minorities. At the first glance one would say that Whole Foods rank high in fortune, but compared to past years we can see that it’s ranking changed backward, which is expected after the latest economic events in USA.

-Whole Foods Structure:

Whole Foods uses a decentralized structure, and depends on a regional organizational structure which allows the company to make decisions based on what works well in each of their regions. This structure helps the company to make better decisions, because all employees who know how decisions will affect the work will actually participate in the decision making process, therefore make better decisions, and the regional organizational structure will make the decision making process better because differences in geographic areas can be accounted for.

-Employees Work Environment:

The company depends on self-directed teams, and as mentioned before, these teams are empowered and can participate in the decision making process, help each other solve problems.

Whole Foods also enable employees to access information that impacts their jobs.
