Summary of LearningFungi obtain nutrients by using enzymes and absorption. The hyphae of fungi are able to secrete digestive enzymes out into the soil and other surroundings in which they grow. The enzymes then digest and breakdown the food. The enzymes decompose the decaying matter while feasting on the nutrients of that substance. The digested mass is then reabsorbed by the hyphae and used by the fungi. Without fungi, the biomass would be crowded with dead matter. |
