Dreams: Hope for Life As per Sigmund Freud neurotic anxiety is an expression of unsatisfied desire which has been diverted from its goal. In Sanjay, the main character’s life, his initial desire of marrying his beloved Kalpana, took a sharp turn due to a single incident to finally wanting to murder and seek revenge to console his pain. For this goal, he sacrificed his safety along with the lives of many innocent victims, in order to fulfill his unsatisfied desire. According to Freud’s discovery, emotions buried in the unconscious surface during dreaming skim to the surface and help uncover buried feelings. In Sanjay’s case, during his memory lossall his memories were bottled up in his unconscious mind, while dreams were the reason he uncovered these buried emotions and their relevance to his existence. Our minds preserve memories and emotions which are not consciously available to us. When his doctor was looking through his personal diary and questioned him about the murder of his wife to be, Sanjay seemed totally unaware of any such incident. However, when put under a hypnotized experiment, Sanjay subconsciously confessed that his lover had been viciously murdered by an unknown figure named Ghajini. This proved that some memories are only available to us upon entering the subconscious state of mind, which is only possible while dreaming. In conclusion dreams are a result of wish fulfillment that is expressed through anxiety dreams and phobias. Ghajini was a movie based on dreams propelled by wish fulfillment and the desperate longing to accomplish a mission. In the end, Sanjay kills his lifelong enemy Ghajini and is cured from the psychological disorder automatically without the use of heavy dose drugs. This proves that after accomplishing a specific goal the neurotic anxiety is reduced due to the satisfaction received by the subject.
